Hello and welcome,

My name is Rene' McGuiggan and it is my pleasure to introduce you to the article you thought was unattainable. We create what you dream! and can produce exactly what you're looking for, to include style, color and fabric of your choice. Consultation services are available, we'll begin with an idea, take a few measurements and be on our way.

A little intro to your new seamstress...

The desire to learn how to sew hit me at the young age of 13, when I realized I was tired of wearing hand-me-downs from my brothers, their clothes were just not fitting like they used to. My very first job was to babysit the little girl next door and that payday took me straight to the fabric store, and we had a sewing machine just sitting in the closet, collecting dust. My very first purchase was a beautiful white gauze fabric with tiny coral flowers everywhere, no pattern necessary, or so I thought... but I was so proud of myself when the skirt was complete, until I put it on - not realizing I had developed hips, what a great surprise for my little sis, she loved it and I went back to the drawing board.

Sewing has given me about 40 years experience on a personal and professional level, the attention to detail and creative thinking has gained complete customer satisfaction and lifetime friendships. I am mostly self taught, utilizing skills as a designer, seamstress, tailor and alterations specialist. My passion has taken me from A-line skirts to party dresses and wedding gowns. To quote a mentor, "if you want to learn how to make donuts, work in a donut shop", so I did... except it was a dress shop that offered tailoring and alterations.

My latest passion is teaching classes at our local fabric and craft store. I find it extremely rewarding, and even get excited for the students who can't believe they've just created something amazing. I also craft specialty items for a couple of local designers, provide alteration services to dress shops and showcase my work at a few salons around town. Coming Soon...I am also working on a line of distinguishable products for on-line purchases, to include original, hand-made items; clutches, bow ties, pillows, hand-bags, scarves and so much more.

I want to thank you for visiting Sew-What Charleston on-line, and I look forward to meeting you soon for any services you may require.

Always a pleasure - Rene'
